New job seekers will be able to apply to jobs at Sydney’s central CBD on Thursday, a move that will mean more people are willing to move to the city, according to a news release from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Job seekers aged between 16 and 24 can apply for up to four jobs, with the first three being permanent, and the last three temporary.
Anyone aged over the age of 65 who works at a government body, or who has worked in a government agency for 12 months, can apply.
There are about 1.8 million jobs available in Sydney, but the release notes that only about 200,000 of those jobs are permanent.
“The city’s job market is expected to remain weak, with more than 10 per cent of jobs currently vacant,” the release said.
“New jobs and the number of people moving to the CBD are key to the overall job market.”
New opportunities will open up in the CBD, with a surge in the number coming from the city’s north and south, which have seen a surge of job growth in recent years.
The central CBD will see an increase of about 200 jobs.
Jobseekers can apply online at jobs.sj.gov.au or call 1300 896 254.
